During a recent business trip to Germany, Mr. Anton Carstens, Managing Director of GMCEO Engineering Services, dedicated a day to visiting KombiTec GmbH, a German specialist in micro-resistance welding technology.
He was warmly hosted by Mr. Kai Rienkens, Managing Director of KombiTec, and received in-depth product training from Mr. Thomas Bergelt, Technical and Laboratory Manager. To mark the occasion, the KombiTec team raised the South African flag outside their headquarters — a proud moment for GMCEO Engineering Services.

Product Training & Applications
The visit included a detailed review of KombiTec’s welding heads, pincers, and compacting tools, with hands-on welded samples that illustrated the direct connection between the equipment and real-world applications.

KombiTec showcased solutions across a wide range of industries:
- Automotive & E-Mobility: welding of battery tabs, bus bars, cable harnesses, and window heaters
- Electronics & Sensors: welding of enameled wires, PCB components, and miniature sensors
- Cables & Power: compacting and welding of stranded wires, copper braids, and terminals
- Lighting: precision welding of molybdenum pins, lamp components, and reflectors
- Medical technology
- Defense / Military

In the laboratory, Mr. Carstens observed how KombiTec supports clients by testing and validating their samples in advance. This ensures that customers benefit from the most reliable welding solutions tailored to their specific materials and applications.

Factory Tour
The tour of KombiTec’s manufacturing facility revealed a spotless, well-organized, and highly professional operation. A welding Workstation were prepared for delivery, allowing for close inspection of live applications. The workstation consisted of two welding heads, with one inverter and controls to switch between the following two welding heads:
DK-2004 Welding Unit – The Quick-Change Artist
- Gap and step welding
- Thermocompression welding
- Welding of enameled copper wires and SMD components onto PCBs
- Sensor production (small to micro range)
- Automated operation with high process reliability
This particular unit was set up to weld 0.030 mm nickel wire onto gold-plated strips, a task demonstrating precision and reproducibility.
SK-2015 Welding Head – The Classic
- Standard spot and projection welding
- Gap welding as a double-head variant
- Welding of components and strands on printed circuit boards
- Lamp industry applications such as welding molybdenum pins with reflectors
- Automated operation with high process reliability

Conclusion
The visit provided valuable insights into KombiTec’s innovative solutions and confirmed the company’s commitment to quality, precision, and customer support. GMCEO Engineering Services looks forward to introducing these micro-resistance welding technologies to clients across South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, empowering industries to benefit from modern, reliable, and traceable welding processes.
